In astrology, there are 12 houses in each natal birth chart. When using a traditional whole sign approach, each zodiac sign will consist of 30 degrees each. Therefore, each individual will have all 12 signs in their birth chart. The "house" placement describes a particular area of the individual's life.

The First house is a powerful house because it is considered "angular". The strongest angular houses are the First, Fourth, Seventh, and Tenth Houses. The First house is associated with one's personality, body, and one's image. The zodiac sign of the First house will also tell us quite a bit about our approach when we initiate things. For example, if someone has a First House in Leo, then the individual might be quite warm-hearted, vibrant, and have a flair for being highly charismatic.

Individuals with a lot of emphasis on the First house are highly attuned to how they show up in the world and can be the artists, entertainers, and comedians. People with highly emphasized First house placements invest in themselves are want to be their very best. When the planet Jupiter is placed in the First house, we can often see an individual who invests in their own development. When Jupiter is in the First House, we can often find a highly generous person who is always willing to grow and learn to better themselves. With Venus in the First house, we can find a person who is affectionate, creative, attractive, and perhaps a bit possessive. With Mars in the First house, we can find someone who is courageous, active, and skillful--and at times a bit reckless.
